Port Douglas overview

Port Douglas lies just an hour’s drive north from Cairns along the scenic coastal route and, despite its relatively compact size, is increasingly regarded as one of Australia’s most cosmopolitan holiday resorts. It’s famous for its idyllic Four Mile Beach, kept delightfully free of development thanks to careful local building restrictions (no building can be taller than the palm trees). Stylish Macrossan Street is packed with sophisticated restaurants and eclectic shopping, and leads down to the bustling marina, from where a variety of cruises depart to the Great Barrier Reef. Port Douglas is also the perfect base from which to explore the rainforests and secluded beaches of Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.
